Member Biographies

 

Born and raised in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, Ben has been Fourth Horn of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra since 2001. Prior to moving to Vancouver he completed a Bachelor of Music degree at Acadia University and a year of post-graduate studies at the New England Conservatory under James Sommerville. Ben enjoyed orchestra fellowships with the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, Spoleto USA and Tanglewood Music Centre.


In addition to his symphony position and membership in the Turning Point Ensemble, Ben is Principal Horn of the National Broadcast Orchestra and a member of the Touch of Brass Quintet, the Vancouver Brass Project and the Vancouver Symphony Brass Quintet. Ben has performed with the National Arts Centre Orchestra, the Seattle Symphony for their 2005 and 2009 productions of Der Ring des Nibelungen and Symphony Nova Scotia.
Ben teaches horn at the University of British Columbia.
