Member Biographies

 

Scottish-born Lorna McGhee was formerly co-principal flute of the BBC Symphony Orchestra, until emigrating to Canada in 1998. She has performed as guest principal and solo concerto performer with many orchestras in the UK and North America. In 2004 she performed Penderecki's flute concerto with the Oregon Bach Festival Orchestra under the baton of Krzysztof Penderecki himself. As a chamber musician and recitalist, Lorna has performed throughout Europe and North America and has been broadcast on CBC Radio, BBC Radio, NPR and Netherlands Radio. She has made chamber music recordings for EMI, Decca ASV, Naxos and Meridian. Along with duo partner Heidi Krutzen and as a member of Trio Verlaine, Lorna has released several CDs on Skylark Music.

 

Lorna has taught at the University of Michigan and is currently at the University of British Columbia. Lorna studied at the RSAMD and the Royal Academy of Music, where she was awarded the Queen's Commendation for Excellence.
