Turning Point Ensemble

Age of Opulence

In November 2005 the Turning Point Ensemble and Heritage Vancouver joined forces to present an entertaining afternoon of Vancouver's history as heard through its music-makers and seen through the Stanley Park Pavilion (built in 1919).  After an informative tour with Heritage Vancouver's Donald Luxton,  more than 200 patrons (some with historically informed outfits!) enjoyed a Tea and a concert performed by the Turning Point Ensemble with special guests soprano Heather Pawsey, pianist Alan Matheson, and narrator Alexander Browne.  Composer and music historian David Gordon Duke arranged some early works of Vancouver's first internationally trained composer, Jean Coulthard, and Alan Matheson arranged some early 20th century parlour music, making the concert both one of experiencing history both visually and sonically connected to our present.
